What is a split sheet?
A split sheet records who contributed to a song and the ownership shares the participants agreed. Composition ownership and master ownership are separate. A producer’s fee or credit does not automatically settle either share. The template records an agreement; it does not decide the legal position for you.
Fill it in at the session
Enter the title, session date and each participant’s full name, role, collecting society and identifier where available. Agree both rights sections, review the totals together and add signatures and dates. If a participant has no share in one right, record zero there rather than merging the two rights.
Avoid common mistakes
Do not leave an absent collaborator out, confuse a publisher’s collection role with ownership, copy master percentages into composition shares without agreement, or assume a signature clears an uncleared sample. Keep signed copies and review administration, payment, samples and contract terms separately with qualified advice.
Frequently asked questions
Must both sections total 100%?
Yes. Composition and master ownership each need a complete allocation. The completed PDF button stays disabled until both totals are 100% and every contributor has a name.
Is any contributor data uploaded?
No. The generator uses browser memory and creates the file locally. It does not store or send song or contributor values. Closing or refreshing the page clears them.
Can I edit the blank templates?
Yes. The blank PDF has editable fields and the DOCX can be edited in a compatible word processor. Print and sign the agreed version.
Does a split sheet replace a contract?
It can record agreed shares, but it does not cover every right or obligation. This template is not legal or financial advice.
For education and planning only. This is not legal or financial advice.
