Practise a steady pulse
Start slowly enough to play accurately, count the displayed beats and repeat a short passage. Increase tempo only when the phrase stays comfortable. Use the accent to hear the bar boundary; turn it off to check whether you can maintain the grouping yourself.
Choose subdivisions deliberately
Eighths divide each displayed beat into two, triplets into three and sixteenths into four. In this tool BPM always counts the denominator note of the time signature. In 6/8 the counter therefore plays six eighth-note beats per bar, rather than two dotted-quarter pulses.
Timing and browser audio
A short look-ahead loop schedules oscillator clicks on the audio clock; timer callbacks do not determine each click time. Device audio latency can affect what you hear, and a sleeping device or background browser may suspend sound. Keep the page active for practice and restart after a long interruption.

Frequently asked questions
Why is there no sound before Start?
Browsers require a user gesture to start audio. Press Start and allow sound for the page if your browser asks.
Does this use recorded click samples?
No. The metronome creates short oscillator tones with the Web Audio API.
How does tap tempo work?
Tap at least twice. The tool averages recent tap intervals, clamps the result to 20–300 BPM and resets after a long pause.
Can I use keyboard shortcuts?
Yes. Space starts or stops and arrows change BPM by one when focus is outside an editable field.
