How does the streaming earnings calculation work?

The formula is streams × rate × (1 − distributor deduction ÷ 100) × (rights share ÷ 100). The calculator applies both the low and high rates, entered in USD per stream. A 50% rights share halves the amount after the distributor deduction. The result follows your assumptions; it does not check statements or interpret agreements.

What could 100,000 streams earn in a worked example?

With 100,000 streams and hypothetical rates of $0.003–$0.005, the starting range is $300–$500. With no distributor deduction and a 100% rights share, that is also your calculated range. A 15% distributor deduction leaves $255–$425. If your rights share is then 50%, the result is $127.50–$212.50. This separates the effect of the distributor deduction from the effect of your participation in the remaining amount.

How many streams would reach an earnings target?

Switch to the target calculation and enter the amount you want to reach in USD. At the hypothetical default rates, a $1,000 target requires 200,000–333,334 streams before deductions. The smaller count uses the higher rate; the larger count uses the lower rate. Counts are rounded up to whole streams. A deduction or smaller rights share increases the required number. This is a planning scenario, not a prediction of future listening.

Which rate should I use for my scenario?

Use explainable assumptions, ideally from comparable statements for your recordings. Check that the period, currency and revenue basis match your scenario. A low and high rate make uncertainty visible. A public average is not a personal payout promise. The calculator does not retrieve platform data, so record where your assumptions came from and why they fit.

How can I avoid counting the same deduction twice?

Check whether your rate already reflects a distributor deduction or your personal share. Applying the same adjustment again would understate the result. Keep the starting basis consistent and change one assumption at a time when comparing scenarios. Other contractual items, taxes and currency conversions are not automatically covered by the percentage fields. Compare your estimate with actual statements later.

Are the default per-stream rates guaranteed?

No. The $0.003–$0.005 defaults are hypothetical example assumptions. The result does not establish any entitlement to payment from a platform, distributor or other party.

Can I enter euro amounts instead of dollars?

The results are labelled USD. Use USD rates and a USD target for consistency. The calculator does not convert euros, dollars or other currencies.

Why does the target calculation return a range of streams?

A higher rate reaches the target with fewer streams. Both limits apply the same deduction and rights share, rounding upward to whole streams.

Can the result replace my actual royalty statement?

No. It supports planning. Compare it with your statement and check whether rates, deductions and shares refer to the same revenue basis.
